Answers in Genesis: Upholding the Authority of the Bible from the Very First Verse

By the time you read this, I will have spoken at a prayer breakfast at the Pentagon. I will be speaking to around 150 people at this special meeting. I will give you a report in the next blog on this unique opportunity. The rest of the day Mally and I are touring some interesting places and then speaking at a private evening meeting with some AiG supporters and their friends.

ALIENS IN OUTER SPACE?

A Tuscon (Arizona) newspaper, The Arizona Daily Star, had an interesting article on the weekend entitled:

“Religions’ views vary widely on life off Earth—What various religions say about the possibility of extraterrestrial life”

They printed the responses from a number of groups—including AiG. I have reprinted the Answers in Genesis section with the items above and below the AiG entry—interesting reading for you:

Hindu mythology is loaded with people and animals on other planets. There are kings and queens and they visit us, we visit them. There is interplanetary travel. ‘Star Wars’ was influenced by Hindu mythology. … I don’t take it all too seriously. We don’t know. I’m a skeptic, but I do think we should look for life. I support that.

The real world is the biblical world—a universe designed by God with the Earth at the spiritual focal point, not an evolutionary universe teeming with life. … Extraterrestrial life is an evolutionary concept; it does not comport with the biblical teachings of the uniqueness of the Earth and the distinct spiritual position of human beings.

I’m fascinated with recent discoveries and the realization of possibilities that there is life on other planets. If there is, what does that say about God? It says God is far beyond the individual, cultural stories of our planet. It depends how you define it, but that concept of power is way beyond our understanding. … The definitions of God people use so often don’t fit with a cosmic view.

I like to remind people of Psalm 115:16, “The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’S; But the earth He has given to the children of men.” Scripture certainly makes earth the center stage. The heavens are there to “declare the glory of God,” but the earth was made for humans to inhabit. So it seems even from these passages, one would not expect life in outer space—only the earth was made specially for intelligent physical beings to dwell on. Also, the Bible makes it clear that the whole of creation groans because of sin (Romans 8:22)—and that Jesus stepped into history on earth to become a human (the God man)—a perfect man, but God, so He could die on a cross, be raised from the dead and offer a free gift of salvation. Jesus remains the “God man,” as he is our Savior. Jesus did not become a “Martian” or a “Klingon” or some other being—he became a human (as God).

So, it wouldn’t make any sense for there to be intelligent beings like us on other planets—they would be suffering from the effects of sin but can’t have salvation, as only descendants of Adam can be saved.

One day the whole universe will be wound up—the judgment by fire—and there will be a New Heavens and Earth. I always say that there can’t be intelligent life like us on other planets—the Bible does not say there is or is not animal or plant life on other planets—but I highly suspect not.

Consequences

(Isa 48:18,22)  O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea…There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.

It is the consequences of man’s failure to give ear and life to obey God that results in restlessness, fear, and sinfulness.
