One of the Few Creationist Christian Universities
Published November 20th, 2009 in My Journeys
Over the last two days, I had the honor of speaking to all students and faculty at two extended chapels—and also a public evening meeting—at Northland International University in Dunbar, Wisconsin. To me it was very encouraging to be asked to speak at a Christian university that takes a stand on biblical authority, beginning in Genesis. There are so few such Christian universities in the world that uphold the book of Genesis as Answers in Genesis does. If you have never heard about Northland, then I encourage you to go to ...
Liberal Lutheran Pastor Slams Already Gone Book and Marriage
Published November 13th, 2009 in My Journeys
Our new book Already Gone has already had a phenomenal impact on numerous churches across America. This book details the results of a survey conducted by America’s Research Group, headed by respected market researcher and behavioralist Britt Beemer—highly respected in both the secular and Christian world.
Britt set out to find out why—and importantly when—two-thirds of our young people are eventually walking away from the church. The results were both revealing and shocking. Britt co-authored the book with me—keep in mind that he would not put his name on a book if he could not agree with ...
Follow-up on Cincinnati Magazine Article
Published November 10th, 2009 in Current Issues in the World, My Journeys, Press Coverage
Recently, I gave a summary of the lengthy article that appears in this month’s edition of Cincinnati Magazine about our Creation Museum—and the visit by the 70 paleontologists who toured our museum a few months ago (they were in the area for a fossil conference).
A senior chemical engineer who works for a multi-billion-dollar Fortune 500 company wrote the following to us after he read the magazine article:
First, I am pleased at the length of coverage. Second, I was upset that the magazine attempted to portray the visiting scientists as fair, and it didn’t mention that AiG ...
In Elvis Country
Published November 9th, 2009 in My Journeys
As soon as my wife and I got on the rent-a-car shuttle from the airport, the driver said, “Welcome to Elvis country.” Well we didn’t come to Memphis, Tennessee, because this is “Elvis country”; we came so I could speak at a conference to help equip people to defend the Christian faith and to challenge non-Christians concerning the gospel.
I spoke to over 2000 at the Sunday morning services of Faith Baptist Church and then to around 1500 Sunday evening for the first of the two evening conference. Today I give two presentations to students, and then this evening ...
Charlie and Trike Are Coming
Published November 8th, 2009 in Ministry Updates, Museum Updates, My Journeys
Kids are going to love a new series of books that will be produced soon, centered around two characters, Charlie and Trike. They will also meet Charlie and Trike at the Creation Museum (early in the new year). The first book is called Charlie and Trike’s Grand Canyon Adventure—the Green Notebook Series. I have included just one of the spreads from this new book (that will be available early 2010):
With Charlie, he usually has his tail in the shape of a question mark! Kids will ...
Getting “To the Point”
Published November 3rd, 2009 in My Journeys
The world’s media often contact us to comment on the intersection of “religion and science.” Last week, we had a Japanese film crew here at the Creation Museum to produce a travelogue of places to visit in America. The week before it was a Canadian documentary crew—this month marks the 150th anniversary of Darwin’s On the Origin of Species, and this nationwide TV program will air in Canada
later this month.
On Friday, Dr. Terry Mortenson participated in a national U.S. interview program called To the Point. The long segment was entitled “Science, Religion, and Public Policy” and ...
WWII Bomber Pilot Visits
Published November 2nd, 2009 in My Journeys
At the end of a recent Thursday at the Creation Museum, and right after the conclusion of three days of board meetings, I found it nice to take a breather and meet some of our guests visiting that day. That included Harry and Lola Fike of Davenport, Iowa. They have been to the museum four times now. Their son, a PhD chemist in Michigan, is also an AiG supporter.
Harry has a remarkable story. During World War II, he flew two dozen missions over various parts of Europe. He told us that he was never shot down ...
Fond Farewell
Published October 31st, 2009 in Around AiG, My Journeys
This week we said good-bye to one of our dear staff, Donna. She is retiring and moving to Arizona to be near family and friends; before doing so, she will be visiting parts of America and then volunteer for a few weeks at the fine ministry of Voice of the Martyrs in Oklahoma. See www.vom.org
Donna, who worked in our correspondence department (using her science background, which she also used as a naturalist with the U.S. government on Johnston Island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean), said good-bye to us this week. Her supervisor, Bodie (left in the photo) said ...
Already Gone Impact Is Growing
Published October 26th, 2009 in Around AiG, Feedback, My Journeys
The impact of the research in our book Already Gone as to why so many young people are leaving the church continues to grow. Here are just two feedback items we received this past week:
I just wanted to send a note of encouragement to your ministry. My husband and I attend [a church in] Michigan. Today our Executive Pastor highly recommended your new book, Already Gone, during the Sunday sermon. We are doing a fall sermon series on mentoring the next generations, and today our pastor described some of the research in your book. In ...
Did Evolution Help Get President Obama Elected?
Published October 25th, 2009 in Museum Updates, My Journeys, Thoughts and Things
Well, a recent news report states:
Why did Barack Obama win the US election and did the fact he is over six feet tall influence the voters? The authors of a paper published in Current Biology this month argue that due to 'a hangover from our evolutionary past' factors like age, sex, height and weight play a major part in the determining our choice of leaders.
You can read the entire report at: http://www.physorg.com/news175360092.html
However, the Bible makes it clear that God raises up kings and destroys kingdoms—God is sovereignly in control of everything—even the election of President Obama. And the ...
