A few months ago I gave a presentation at AiG’s Mega Conference entitled, “Eugenics and Planned Parenthood: Past, Present, and Future.” I documented the foundation upon which Margaret Sanger founded Planned Parenthood—eugenics (meaning well-born) and evolution. Sanger stated, “The practice of Birth Control raises us to a higher stage in the evolution of life as each individual progresses he helps to raise the human race in its evolution forward and onward to higher planes.” Her belief and that of many other eugenicists of her time was that certain individuals labeled as “defective” should not be allowed to reproduce so that human evolution could progress. These eugenic ideals remain the foundation of modern Planned Parenthood (see my chapter “What About Eugenics and Planned Parenthood?” in the New Answers Book 3 for more details).
I was shocked when I read of the association of Girls Scouts of America (GSUSA) with Planned Parenthood. My daughter has been asked to join Girl Scouts several times, and I have always been hesitant as I am not familiar with the organization and was concerned what the girls might be taught. My mother’s intuition was apparently very accurate!
In 2004 Kathy Cloninger (then CEO of GSUSA) stated, “We partner with many organizations. We have relationships with our church communities, with YWCAs and with Planned Parenthood organizations across the country, to bring information-based sex education programs to girls.” In the past few years, several websites started by former members or leaders of Girl Scouts have begun documenting very disturbing information about what is being taught at meetings and the agendas of those at high levels in the organization.
One website documented that many of the speakers for the 2011 GSUSA conference were open and prominent supporters of homosexuality, abortion, explicit sex education and liberal feminism. Earlier this year, a transgender boy wanted to join a Girl Scouts troop in Colorado. The local troop leader initially rejected his request but Girl Scouts of Colorado overturned the troop leader’s decision and stated, “If a child identifies as a girl and the child’s family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout.” Obviously GSUSA is teaching and practicing an extremely liberal, anti-Christian agenda.
I know for my part I won’t be buying any more Girl Scout cookies because I refuse to support an organization that teaches ideas and supports organizations that are clearly contrary to God’s Word. I encourage parents to remember that it is our responsibility to teach our children God’s Word (Deuteronomy 6:6–9) and to diligently research any teaching organization whether it is school, church, or otherwise into which we place our children for instruction. We need to carefully guard the hearts and minds of the little ones God has placed in our care.
Keep fighting the good fight of the faith!
