Creation/Evolution Debate!

by Ken Ham

It’s uncommon to see creation/evolution debates being conducted anymore. Back in the ‘70s and ‘80s, people like Dr. Duane Gish were very active in presenting the creation side in large meeting halls. But the word spread in the evolutionist community: don’t debate the creationists. You see, evolutionists would often admit that the creationists usually won the debates, and, thus, the attitude became: why give them a public platform and some credibility?

We’re pleased to report that Prof. Andy McIntosh, an adjunct speaker for our sister ministry in England, will be a participant in something called The Debate Summit 2010—March 12–13 in the town of Washington Court House, Ohio (northeast of our Cincinnati metro area). Dr. McIntosh’s opponent in this professionally moderated debate will be Dr. Will Provine, professor of biology at Cornell University. Dr. Provine is a well-known evolutionist—perhaps best known for his appearance in the Ben Stein-hosted documentary EXPELLED: No Intelligence Allowed.

The debate topic is “Flight in Birds and Bats: Is Evolution or Creation the Best Guide?” Dr. McIntosh is well suited—his expertise can be seen in our DVD entitled The Intricacies of Flight. Dr. McIntosh is a professor of thermodynamics and combustion theory at Leeds University (UK)—though he is not speaking in Ohio as a representative of the university—and his PhD is in aerodynamics. The debate starts at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 13.

The Debate Summit is sponsored by Grace Community Church of Washington Court House and is a 90-minute drive northeast from the Creation Museum (along I-71). The event actually includes two other debates. Dr. Ed Buckner, president of American Atheists, will debate Jay Lucas, senior pastor of Grace Community Church, on “Moral Foundations: Which Makes More Sense, Christianity or Atheism?” In a third debate that week, Dr. Provine will also debate Dr. Dennis Sullivan of Cedarville University’s Center for Bioethics on the topic “Free Will: Does It Exist? Does It Matter?" See The Debate Summit website for registration and cost info.

By the way, the Sunday after the debates, AiG’s Dr. David Menton will speak at the host church of these meetings (Grace Community Church)—March 14 at 10:00 a.m.

Happy 70th

The Creation Museum’s Foto FX photographer Marty Minnard turns 70 today. (If you have visited the Creation Museum, you have probably been photographed by Marty in front of the large green screen near the entrance).

Marty was born in Plainwell, Michigan, on January 20, 1940. He joined the Army’s 101st Airborne in 1957. He worked in many trades over the years, his favorite being construction. In 1960 he began his life-long interest in photography, which grew into a full-time profession in 1997. Marty is an accomplished canoeist, bicyclist, tennis player, and skier in addition to being a photographer.

He and his wife came to the Creation Museum in February of 2007, where he helped in the construction of the café deck and driveway planter. At the opening of the museum, he started as manager of the Foto FX booth in the portico and continues there today. Marty has never looked or acted his age and has no intentions of starting now—and certainly no intention of retiring!

Devotion

The Lord hath kept me alive

(Joshua 14:10–11) And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as he said, these forty and five years, even since the LORD spoke this word unto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wilderness: and now, lo, I am this day fourscore and five years old.

How good to wake up each morning and begin with the praise, “The Lord hath kept me alive,” and better through death to awake in heaven with the same words.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying, Ken
