Scout Unashamedly Shines Light of God’s Truth

by Ken Ham

Recently there have been numerous news items about the Boy Scouts in the USA and how the group is reconsidering its policy on admitting gays. Here is an example of a news item that discussed this topic.

An AiG supporter who is an Eagle Scout (the highest rank in scouting) sent us a copy of the letter he sent to his local scouting council. He wrote the following:

Dear …

I am an Eagle Scout … and a current Tiger Den Leader in … I have been reading about the proposed policy changes and I felt compelled to write to you.

I am appalled that you are considering allowing openly homosexual leaders. It is striking how much the organization has drifted towards political correctness since I was a Boy Scout. But, this is beyond comprehension.

I have been pledging to be reverent (Scout Law) and morally straight (Scout Oath) since I was a kid and joined scouting. Though I do not claim to be perfect in this regard (far from it), I know that God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins when we repent. Repentance and striving to obey God’s law is very different than openly living in a constant state of rebellion and working to deceive others into accepting the rebellion. Romans 1:26-32 (copied below for your reference) is very clear on how God feels about this behavior. Moral straightness and reverence are not congruent with openly disobeying God’s written word.

Not only is this proposed policy change giving "hearty approval to those who practice such <depravities>", but, it is endangering children in the process. For clarity, I am not saying that all homosexuals are child molesters. But, I am saying that all are practicing a depravity before God. I pray that those in this lifestyle will repent and seek forgiveness. How can the Boy Scouts, in good conscience, claim to have a desire to promote moral straightness and reverence before God while at the same time giving tacit approval to behavior that is explicitly condemned in the Bible?

BSA should be ashamed of even considering this. The Boy Scouts that helped me to become a man and taught me sound principles would not have allowed this and I am saddened to see this being considered. I can only hope and pray that the organization will repent and reconsider the policy change.

I left similar feedback on the national scouting site. However, feel free to forward this to whomever you deem appropriate within your organization.  If you wish to discuss this further, please feel free to give me a call. …

Respectfully, …

26 For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is [a]unnatural, 27 and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing [b]indecent acts and receiving in [c]their own persons the due penalty of their error.

28 And just as they did not see fit [d]to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, [e]haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

-Romans 1:26-32 (NASB)

Thanks to this Eagle Scout for being unashamedly Christian and shining the light of God’s truth in the culture.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,

Ken
