California Here I Come—Again

Next month I will be flying back to southern California—where I used to live and often find myself doing speaking ministry—to keynote at a major homeschool convention. If you live in California or nearby states, then maybe you can make the drive to Anaheim’s Disneyland Hotel, June 6–8, 2013. A number of homeschool conventions are losing much of their biblical worldview emphasis and are allowing speakers and vendors to participate who are either secular in their thinking or don’t fully accept biblical authority, and as such, I look forward to speaking at this California event.

You may have seen the article I wrote recently about atheists objecting to me speaking at a homeschool convention in Texas this August. These atheists don’t want homeschoolers to run Christian conventions! If you haven’t seen the article, I encourage you to read it.

Homeschooling is one of the fastest growing forms of education in the US. It is estimated that more than two million children in the US are currently being homeschooled. Want to meet real-life homeschoolers and learn what this movement is about? All parents who are interested in their children’s education are welcome to attend.

Join thousands who will gather June 6-8 at the Disneyland® Hotel for the upcoming 30th Annual CHEA Homeschool Convention.

A Teen Convention, the Second Annual Graduation Ceremony, a virtual gift basket for all attendees (a nearly $300 value), a Used Curriculum Exchange and an Exhibit Hall with more than 200 booths are features of the event.

By popular request, Ken Ham, president of Answers in Genesis, will be a Keynote Speaker, joined by Doug Phillips of Vision Forum, and Elizabeth Smith, wife of HSLDA president J. Michael Smith and sought-after speaker in her own right.

A full Exhibit Hall, a Homeschool Mock Trial Tournament, and a Children’s Convention join CHEA’s outstanding line-up of events. Featured speakers are Marianne Sunderland and Dr. Jim Stobaugh.

The Convention will be held at the Disneyland® Hotel in Anaheim. Online pre-registration is closed, but at-the-door registration is available (see details and prices at www.cheaofca.org). Spouses attend free with one paid registration.

Win prizes including hotel stays, gift certificates, curriculum and more at the Ultimate Giveaway, to be held Saturday evening. Register for the Convention and you will automatically be entered to win prizes (must be present to win).

A free introductory session is the perfect opportunity to investigate home education with no cost or obligation (registration is required for admission to all other parts of the Convention). This session is open to the public on Thursday, June 6 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and will feature homeschool veterans. Attendees of this session receive a free Exhibit Hall guest pass good for the remainder of Thursday evening.

We are pleased to announce the First Annual National Homeschool Mock Trial Tournament to be held at the Convention. Teams of 8 to 18 students and individual competitors will compete for more than $60,000 in academic prizes including scholarships.

This year’s workshop line-up includes something for all homeschoolers, from beginners to veterans. The keynote, featured, and other speakers will cover multiple aspects of homeschooling, parenting, and home management . . . .

Nearly 200 exhibit booths in two Exhibit Halls will showcase curriculum, college prep, colleges, ministry, teaching resources, and more. Thursday evening is the Grand Opening of the Exhibit Hall (Convention registration required). Thousands of used books, textbooks, teaching aids, and other homeschooling items will be available at the annual Used Curriculum Exchange.

The Leadership Conference, June 6, is open to all who are interested in leadership of private Christian homeschool groups. This Thursday conference requires a separate registration. More information is available online or by calling the CHEA office at 562-864-2432.

CHEA has been providing service and support for homeschooling families since 1982. In addition to two conventions each year, CHEA has a selection of homeschool help materials, including the popular An Introduction to Home Education, a free digital magazine The California Parent Educator, and a statewide network of homeschool groups.
