In Mark 9:50 we read that Christians are to “Have salt in ourselves”. From Psalm 51:5 we learn that we are sinful at birth. This means that our children come out with no salt in themselves. We need to be pouring the salt of Biblical truth into our children. We ought to be pouring Christian apologetics into our children. The problem is that they are naturally sinful and thus much of that salt falls out the bottom. We see in 1 Cor 15:33 that â??Bad company corrupts good characterâ??. Because we have a sin nature, itâ??s so much easier for others to drag us down than for us to drag up the world. How much more so for our children! Because of their sin nature, itâ??s much easier for them to be dragged down by the bad than for them to drag up the bad. The bad will influence the good more than the good will influence the bad. Did Lot influence Sodom or did Sodom influence Lot? The bad will influence the good because we are already bad. Weâ??re already humanist at heart therefore weâ??re more likely to be influenced by that which is bad. And hereâ??s the big deal, one of the greatest influences on children is other children. Peer socialization can be one of the most destructive influences in your childâ??s life.

Even Ken Ham talks about dealing with youth pastors and the youth group wanting to have Ken?s children in the youth group to influence some of the children who are not that good. Ken?s response was that he didn?t want those bad children to influence his children. Unfortunately even the church has bought into the lie that children need lots of time with other children to be ?socialized?. ? But we must remember that children are not miniature adults. Children are children. Until they have that salt in themselves, they will be tossed to and fro with every wind of doctrine.

We need to teach our children, not only what to believe, but why to believe it. Sadly many parents just take their children to church and tell them what to believe, but they have the wrong foundation, we?ve allowed them to be taught millions of years. So they try to push Christian morality from the top down rather than build on the foundation and build up. If Christian parents send their children to the public school system, they are being indoctrinated into an anti-God worldview.

Matthew 5:13 states â??If the salt loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again?â?? The problem is that so many children from church homes are being contaminated by humanism, by evolution, by TV. If your children are in the public school system, you need to realize that the public schools are not neutral. The public school system is against Christ. The school system is teaching our children, practically to be atheists. Let me ask you a question: Did the Israelites send their children to the Philistines to be trained? No, the Israelites trained their children in the Lord, so that their children could be a light to the Philistines. When youâ??ve been trained by the enemy, you think like the enemy. Jeremiah 10:2 This is what the LORD says: Do not learn the ways of the nations (the heathen)â?¦If you children go to public school, how many hours per day are they trained in that anti-God system versus how many hours are they spending with their parents so the parents can put in salt and decontaminate them? ? Fathers need to teach their children the ways of the Lord.

Fathers, be encouraged that God has given you the gift of children. Do everything within the power of the Holy Spirit to give them a taste for the things of the Lord while they are young and even when they are old, it will stay with them. If they are in the anti-Christ government schools, consider prayerfully whether you can really decontaminate them from all the humanism, evolution, etc they are being indoctrinated with on a daily basis. Fathers need to be the spiritual leaders of the home including educating our children in light of the authority of the Bible and the Lordship of Christ in every subject area.

As Christians we want to teach our children a Biblical worldview through teaching the Lordship of Christ in the sciences, in reading, in writing, in history, etc. But when it comes to the actual textbook there is a wide variety of choices. Why teach reading through texts like â??If Johnny has 5 apples and his sister takes 3 away, how many apples does Johnny haveâ??? Why not teach children a God honoring worldview through values like â??If Johnny has 5 apples and shares 3 apples with his sister, how many apples does Johnny have?â?? Do you see the difference? The first is subtly teaching children that to take things from others is normative, if not downright a good idea. The second is subtly teaching children that to share with others is normative, if not downright a good idea. Thatâ??s a small example, but when you have 6 hours a day 5 days a week working through texts like that, it starts to make a difference in how the child thinks and behaves.

My wife and I reviewed a curriculum published by a Christian publishing company that had a dedication that said this book was â??to the glory of Godâ??, but then inside the curriculum, made almost no mention of God whatsoever. It was like a secular textbook, but with a Christian cover. In picking out curriculum for our children we have come across tons of â??Christianâ?? books like this. It makes me think of a previous post on this blog where I said the only thing a Christian who is a public school teacher has to do to become a secular humanist in the classroom is simply keep silent about God. Even if that person is a Christian outside the government schools, inside he has become a pawn of the humanist agenda. In the same way these so called â??Christianâ?? books have no God honoring value in them.

There is no such thing as a neutral education or textbook. If you leave God out, youâ??re building a secular worldview that dishonors God. All of our life should be an acknowledgement of God and His glory. Christian books should be giving glory to God in whatever subject they are teaching. Literature, even fiction, should be honoring to the Lord. We need to be proactively training up our children in the fear of the Lord, not simply teaching them Bible stories on Sundays. We ought to give them a worldview that sees God working in all of life, when we sit in our houses, when we walk by the way and as we lie down and rise up.

Something that has me stumped about â??Classical Christianâ?? education is that it has children reading the so called â??greatâ?? â??classicâ?? books. But according to whose standard are they â??greatâ??? Who has determined they are â??classicsâ??? Well, it looks like it is the world that has deemed these books classics. But what does God think about them? The question is â??What does the Scripture say?â?? about these â??greatâ?? books. Do they honor the God of the Bible? Do they bring glory to Jesus Christ? Do they give children a Biblical worldview? Now donâ??t get me wrong, Iâ??m sure there is a lot of positives about following a â??Classicalâ?? Christian education model, but on this point of having my children read Greek mythology, Roman pagan poems and the like simply because they are deemed â??classicsâ?? by the world, I just donâ??t understand.

Many ‘Christian’ science textbooks would teach ‘millions of years’ and some would even teach evolution outright. But believing in ‘millions of years’ is devasting to building a Biblical worldview. If a Christian science textbook were to not even mention God as the Creator of the universe, we would be appalled. In the same way, if an English textbook doesn’t mention glorifying God as the goal of our language, we ought to be appalled. We need to be very discerning in our curriculum purchases and not judge a book by its cover, so to speak. Carefully look through the lessons and see if the attitudes and actions portrayed are the ones you would like your children to imitate. See if Jesus Christ is named and given the rightful place of glory in the lessons. I’m not talking about Bible stories here, I’m talking about the real world of science, history, language, etc. where Jesus Christ is Lord.

Let me encourage all of us as Christians to do all that we can to give our children a Biblical worldview. As far as it depends on us, let us teach and demonstrate to our children that God is active in all of the affairs of men. Let use resolve to honor God in all areas of our lives (for example, leisure or recreation) so that our children will know that we are wholly devoted to our Lord and Savior. At the same time, let us not be deceived into thinking that we can convert our children to Jesus Christ. Only the Holy Spirit of God can regenerate our childrenâ??s hearts, but He does that through His truth and we can be conduits for the Truth of His word. Educating our children is a tremendous responsibility and privilege, let us never lose sight that our children are a stewardship from God and we ought to train them up to have a desire for and love for the word of God.

Just a few issues that I see in the government schools and I’d like to apply these concepts to other areas of our lives.

1) Children are segregated by age

2) Children are separated from their parents influence

3) Children of one household of different ages are broken up into different classes

4) Children are influenced negatively by their peers

5) Children are generally taught curriculum which their parents didnâ??t approve

6) Children are taught in large classes, typically 30 or more students

7) Children are usually in classes where the main priority is simply keeping utter chaos from breaking out. Some teachers discipline more than instruct.

Now as a Christian, notice that although these weaknesses are descriptive of the government school system, they are also indicative of most Christian schools as well. Even further, I would propose that they also describe, unfortunately, many local churches to which our families belong. Iâ??m referring to the Sunday Schools for children, the churchâ??s Bible clubs for kids, AWANA type programs, â??childrenâ??sâ?? church, youth groups, Jr. High groups, High School groups, etc.

Notice that even in many of our local churches, as soon as we walk through the church doors our families are broken apart. I believe the world tries to break up my family enough as it is, I certainly donâ??t want to go to church and have my family broken up again. Yet that is exactly what happens in thousands of churches around the country. A family of seven walks in and one child is sent to the nursery, another is sent to the 3rd grade class, another is marched to the 6th grade Sunday school, a fourth trots off to the Jr. High group, and lastly a teenager goes to the youth group. Age segregation is not taught in the Bible. This philosophy came from evolutionist underpinnings and was instituted in our public schools by the framework of humanist John Dewey and other founders of the government school system. The church has simply taken cues from the public schools and copied aspects of that system.

Iâ??m not saying that all of these types of groups are evil, but Iâ??m asking Christians to step back and take a big picture look at what is happening to the institution of the family in the world, in education and in the church. Many Christians who have come to see homeschooling as the best way to instill a love for God and His word into children are starting to look at the local church and ask some pointed questions. Negative peer influence, or â??socializationâ?? is a big reason why lots of us homeschool. Rather than seeing socialization as a weakness of homeschooling, it is actually one of its greatest strengths. Our children are being socialized by godly adults (their parents). And we can supervise the socialization they have with other children (their siblings and friends). Just as we protect our children physically from harm, we see our responsibility as protecting our children from spiritual harm.

?

A lot of these types of programs are really just teaching â??Bible storiesâ?? to our young children and unfortunately are disconnected from the â??real worldâ??. We need some real curriculum that will â??reconnect the Bible to the real worldâ??. Also many of the â??youth groupsâ?? in America are simply places where â??funâ?? is emphasized over a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. One of the reasons why we are losing our children as they get older is because weâ??ve fed them with so much â??funâ?? that they have built up a desire for self-gratification. When the reason why they come to church is because it is â??funâ?? then sooner or later they will realize that they can have much more fun with the world. The churchâ??s idea of fun can hold a young childâ??s desires for a while, but the worldâ??s idea of fun is so much greater (that is, pleasing to the flesh). The fun of the church cannot hold a candle to the fun of the world. Once teenagers get a hold of that concept, you see them leaving the church.

?

The issue is becoming that a lot of what we see as wrong with the public school system is also in the church. Even homeschoolers who try their best to keep their children from harmful peer pressure by educating them at home are seeing the same issues while their children are at youth group or Sunday school, etc. I believe God is prompting fathers and mothers to see the problems of age segregation, amongst other issues, and giving them a yearning for something more, something different.

God is leading many families (fathers in particular) to have a vision for a family friendly or family integrated meeting of the church. An assembly of believers where families are welcomed and encouraged to sit together as they worship the Lord through songs, teaching, fellowship, prayer and the breaking of bread. I believe this can be a very healthy environment for children to see their parents worshipping God and fellowshipping with other believers.

Some might object, â??But children need teaching on their own level. They canâ??t understand everything the pastor is teaching.â?? I would agree. But the solution is not to break up the family by segregating them into separate classes. Rather, remember it is the parentsâ?? responsibility to educate and disciple their own children. Good church leadership would encourage fathers to disciple their wives and children. Even the teaching time can be geared to equipping fathers to that end. So when children do have questions about the sermon, the parents can be the ones to explain it to them â??on their levelâ??.

Again, the Bible is clear that children are given to parents, not the government, not the schools and not even the church, primarily. Parents and fathers in particular, let me encourage you to boldly take back the â??outsourcingâ?? of your childrenâ??s education, not only in academic things but also in spiritual things. Fathers, ask God to give you the wisdom and courage to be the spiritual leader and primary discipler of your wife and children. May God grant you the grace and conviction to bring up your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

What if your children?s public school had class sizes with about ten students, averaging about four or five?

What if the government?s curriculum was Christ-centered, God-honoring and taught the Lordship of Christ in every subject?

What if your child?s public school teacher could customize the curriculum to each individual student?s needs and desires?

What if in your local public school there was close to zero negative peer-influence on your child?

What if in your child?s government school there was a tremendous amount of positive, Godly socialization from a wide range of age groups?

What if your child?s school teacher loved your child as much as a parent loves their own children?

What if your public school system brought prayer, the Bible and the 10 Commandments back into the classroom?

What if your public school stopped teaching your pre-teens ?sex education?, moral relativism, the new ?tolerance?, etc.?

Most Christians would answer a tremendous ?That would be great!? to all of those ?what ifs?. The amazing truth is that all of these concepts can be a reality through the discipline of what is called ?homeschooling?. Homeschoolers typically have small class sizes (their own brothers and sisters). Homeschooling parents have the ability to choose the best Christian curriculum available. Homeschooling parents can tailor fit each child with a particular curriculum. When you homeschool, you minimize the amount of destructive peer influence to your child. In fact, it is the Godly parents who have the most influence on their children. And who could love and know your children better than you (the parents)?

Again, I want to emphasize that homeschooling in and of itself is not virtuous. There are some non-Christians who homeschool and it is not glorifying to God. But homeschooling is the best discipline that we have to teach our children in the name of Jesus. Christian schools are second best in that, though they may have a ?Christian? curriculum (though many would compromise on Genesis 1-11), they still have much of the destructive peer influence of unregenerate children, in whom foolishness is bound up. Also, Christian parents need to come to grips with the fact that thought they may delegate their authority to teach to outsiders, they can never delegate away their responsibility. God gave children to parents, not the church, not the state, not the public schools. God will hold parents, particularly fathers, responsible for their children?s education.

Today, Christians have the freedom to educate their children at home in every state, with few restrictions. This is based on God?s grace through the hard work of homeschool pioneers and organizations like the HSLDA and CLA. I believe every Christian parent ought to look long and hard at the joys and benefits of home-based education. Parents are to be the primary spiritual disciplers of their children and that includes their education. God wants to see multi-generational faithfulness, that is parents passing on a spiritual heritage to their children. Teaching our children in the name of Jesus is one of our greatest joys and privileges. I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth.

As most of us Christians can readily see, the public school system is failing the grade. The question becomes how should we respond? Well, actually I would say that is the wrong question. The question should be foundationally, what does the Bible say about education our children? At Answers in Genesis we strive to base all our thinking on the Bible and to build our life structure starting with the Word of God. This means, we go to the revealed will of God Himself to find out how we are to educate our children.

In the Scriptures, we find that wisdom is the primary thing. We see that â??the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdomâ??. The Bible proclaims that our chief end is to love the Lord our God with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Christians are called to bring up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. We also see that mere knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. In light of these principles and the many more we find in the pages of the Bible, I see my responsibility as a father to disciple my children in the Christian faith such that they will die to themselves and live for God. My goal is that my children will love God immensely and love their neighbor as they already love themselves. To train up my sons and daughters in the fear of the Lord, loving his Word is the greatest education I could provide for them.

Our culture seems to draw this thick line between education and discipleship. We have bought into the lie of there being â??sacredâ?? and â??secularâ?? spheres of life. From the Bible, we learn that all of life is sacred, that is, all of life is to be lived under the authority of the Bible, submitting to the Lordship of Christ. Even the Christian world has bought into a â??compartmentalizedâ?? Christianity, where I can be spiritual on Sunday and live like the world Monday through Saturday. But the Word of God knows nothing of that mentality. It is the Christianâ??s privilege and responsibility to surrender every area of life to Christ as our Master. Daily, monthly, yearly the Lord shows us our blind spots and we ought to be eager to repent of those areas where we are still living for ourselves. Strive to live a lifestyle of repentance as the Lord opens our eyes to His holiness more and more by the Holy Spirit.

I pray that this blog has been helpful in perhaps opening our eyes to the dangers of sending our children to another religious institution for their education. I believe that parents, particularly, fathers are held responsible for their childrenâ??s education and thus must strive to provide a Christ-centered curriculum and environment for their children. The best way I know how is to train up your children with every subject being demonstrated as giving glory to God. Teaching mathematics can give glory to God as He is the founder of the discipline and it is based on His order and laws. History should be shown as His story, God sovereignly working out providences in times past. English should be taught for the purpose of honoring God with our words and lips. The highest end of reading is to read the very words of God found in the Bible. And it goes on. A home based education/discipleship program affords these opportunities.

<span style="font-size: 12pt; font-family: "Times New Roman"">Homeschooling is not inherently honoring to God and does not automatically produce godly children. But it is the best avenue, channel, instrument that we have to instill in our children the proper Christ-centered education and God honoring values that God wants in our children. By the grace of God, we can keep our children innocent in what is evil and wise in what is good. Allowing wicked, secular influences on a schedule that we set, once we believe God has prepared them to stand in the midst of the darkness of this world. Homeschooling is the best way to disciple our children in every subject of life. May God bless those who have a vision for training up warriors for Christ and may the Lord open your eyes if you donâ??t have that vision yet. May God grant you the conviction to do whatever it takes to raise up boys and girls who see Godâ??s hand in all of life, in every subject they study.

If youâ??ve read the previous blog posts, you will have heard how the NEA leadership requested (demanded) that we move our â??gay marriageâ?? booklets to the back of the table (out of public view). An interesting point to note is that right next to the anti â??gay marriageâ?? booklets were anti-racism booklets. Because the Bible is the word of God the Creator of the universe, we know that marriage is between one man and one woman. In the same way we know that there is only one race: the human race. Our booklet entitled â??Where did the Races come from?â?? explains from Genesis that we are all related to Adam and Eve. Weâ??re all related to each other because there is only one race, strictly speaking. We also know from Genesis that God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.

The interesting thought is, what if a racist had strolled by our booth and saw our contention that racism is wrong (just like our contention that â??gay marriageâ?? is wrong). What if that racist was so offended that our booklet explains that a â??whiteâ?? person can marry a â??blackâ?? person with no offense to God? And what if that racist stormed up to the NEA leadership offices and demanded that the Creation Science Educatorsâ?? Caucus move their â??anti-racismâ?? booklet to the back table, out of view? Do you think the NEA would comply with that demand? I think not. Since racism is politically incorrect, the NEA would probably wax eloquent to this person on how to be â??tolerantâ?? and â??celebrate diversityâ??, etc. He would probably either be laughed out of the office or thrown out.

But in our case, since â??gay marriageâ?? is politically correct (as least in liberal circles), the offended person was granted his request and we were threatened if we didnâ??t acquiesce to their demand. Do you see the double standard? Apparently their commitment to â??toleranceâ?? only goes so far. They are intolerant of intolerance, their philosophy is self-refuting.

Brethren, if you have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb, let me put before you a great need. We need to strengthen Christian public school teachers through our encouragement and prayers. Ask that God would embolden them to teach in the name of Jesus. Grant them the courage to teach the true history of the universe. If you are a Christian in the public school system, donâ??t let Satan steal your courage from you to proclaim that â??the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdomâ??. Unfortunately, many Christians are in effect, practicing secular humanism by simply leaving Jesus Christ out of every subject of education.

Letâ??s strengthen our brothers and sisters in Christ by supporting their efforts to boldly proclaim Godâ??s sovereign hand in history, Godâ??s creation of order and mathematics, how God can be glorified in our writing and reading, how science confirms the truth of the Bible, etc. The humanists are very shrewd and have pressured Christians for too long to commit the sin of silence. We as Christians feel like we are being forced to give up our Christianity when we walk through the workplace doors. But the truth of the matter is we are not being forced to give up our faith, we are being pressured, but we do not have to succumb to that pressure. On the contrary we must stand up for Jesus in every area of life, letting our light shine in such a way that men glorify God. This is not only applicable to teachers in the government school system, but to all Christians in any secular work environment.

Many times Christian teachers in government education will console themselves by thinking their actions or lifestyle will â??preachâ?? for them. Perhaps the students will notice that they donâ??t cuss and theyâ??re nice. The Biblical mandate, however is to preach the truth with our words and our behavior. It is not one or the other. Just today I heard of a student in the public school system who wrote a science paper on Creationism and received an A by his teacher. Apparently the paper was passed around to other teachers and all were impressed by it. One of the teachers sent a postcard to the studentâ??s house saying the teacher was encouraged to be more bold in her faith at school because of the studentâ??s boldness. Thatâ??s what Iâ??m talking about. By the grace of God, letâ??s encourage one another to take a stand for righteousness even (or especially) in our secularized workplaces. Shine your light before men and God and see what God does. Let us fear God more than men.

Hereâ??s a snippet from a press release by the â??American Atheistsâ?? group on May 2nd, 1994.

American Atheists, today, has demanded that the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission modify its newly issued regulations and guidelines to include protection for Atheists against religious harassment in the workplace.

These demands include the following:

(1) The physical work place, itself, should be religion-free, that is without religious radio programs, signs, framed mottos, pictures, poems, calendars, ornaments, jewelry, brochures, crucifixes, Bibles or religious literature, and religious notices (on shared communications boards).
(2) The milieu of the work place should be free of â??god-talk,â?? that is singing, humming, or whistling of religious songs or hymns, religious conversations, prayers, and overt meditations.
(3) â??Holidayâ?? celebrations should not be religion centered. Religious decorations, religious â??caroling,â?? and prayers should be eliminated during the Christmas, Hanukkah, Easter, Passover and Ramadan seasons. At most grouped â??Winterâ?? and â??Springâ?? events should be recognized.
(4) Employees should not adorn themselves with religious paraphernalia (yarmulkes, crucifixes, earrings, head scarfs).
(5) Any or all oral or written proselytizing for religion should be forbidden at interpersonal, supervisory, or executive relationship levels.
(6) Pay increments and promotions should be based strictly on job performance and not on association or affiliation with religious person or groups.â??

â??The attention of the EEOC is called to a recent (April 20/20 special on ABC television featuring Barbara Walters and Hugh Downs. In reviewing the safety of mail carriers, the ABC cameras captured a scene in a Los Angeles post office where a supervisor called all employees to a central location there to â??hold hands and pray to Jesus Christâ?? for the safety of the carriers. Neither Ms. Walters nor Mr. Downs found such offensive behavior unusual. This speaks to the current religious domination in federal work places which Atheists should not need to endure.

Religious persons and groups are now addressing the EEOC with the claim that discrimination is practiced against religious persons who desire to evidence, display, or proselytize their religious convictions. Jon Murray, President of American Atheists noted, â??This is a joke; the basic discrimination in the work place is against those persons who are not religious.â??
â??Religion is, or ought to be, a private matter. Even with eight hours of employment per day, religious persons still have sixteen hours of time, each day, to perform religious obligations and are, therefore, under no real restriction. Activities related to the religion of any employee should be anathema in any places of employment, government or private.â??
â??It is now recognized that smoking can be injurious to the physical health of non-smokers and consequently it is being eliminated in work areas. Religion should also be eliminated as it is injurious to the emotional and psychological health of persons who are not religious as well as to adherents of minority religions. The problem can be solved by the application of the strict standard of No Religion in the work place.â??
â??Now that all polling reveals that 10 percent of the population is not religious, the right to their freedom from religion must be guarded by this regulatory agency, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.â??

WOW! Doesnâ??t this alarmingly seem to be happening before our very eyes. On our watch, more and more of our culture seems to be secularized, evolutionized. You can sense that many of the atheists demands have been fulfilled in the government school system, being systematically propagated by organizations like the NEA. Christians in this system have acquiesced to the atheists demands, incrementally, little by little we have given ground to the humanists and they are more than willing to take it from us. Did we not used to have Bible reading in the schools? Didnâ??t we use to be able to see Godâ??s Word posted in the 10 commandments in the classroom? Werenâ??t we able to pray in the name of Jesus in our schools? In fact we used to teach grammar and phonics from the Bible! But where are we today? Because we Christians have given ground and not stood up for the truth, our children are being indoctrinated into an anti-Christ system.

Let us not become a statistic or worse, in Godâ??s eyes one who commits the sin of silence in our schools and at our workplace. Let us have faith in God and boldly proclaim the Truth in every setting that we find ourselves in. If God is for us, who can be against us? Greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world!

Please notice below the trend of the humanists to educate our children at a younger and younger age. Also notice they insert ’sexual orientation’ into every non-discrimination clause. Notice how anti-homeschooling they are. Notice how they are pro-abortion. The list goes on…
The Association believes that:

Funds must be provided for programs to alleviate race, gender, and sexual orientation discrimination and to eliminate portrayal of race, gender, sexual orientation and gender identification stereotypes in the public schools.
Full-day, every day kindergarten programs should be fully funded.

The National Education Association supports early childhood education programs in the public schools for children from birth through age eight. The Association also supports a high-quality program of transition from home and/or preschool to the public kindergarten or first grade. This transition should include communication and cooperation among parents/guardians, the preschool staff, and the public school staff. The Association also believes that early childhood education programs should include a full continuum of services for parents/guardians and children, including child care, child development, developmentally appropriate and diversity-based curricula, special education, and appropriate bias-free screening devices. The Association believes that federal legislation should be enacted to assist in organizing the implementation of fully funded early childhood education programs offered through the public schools. These programs must be available to all children on an equal basis and should include mandatory kindergarten with compulsory attendance.

The National Education Association believes that similarities and differences among races, ethnicity, color, national origin, language, geographic location, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identification, age, physical ability, size, occupation, and marital, parental, or economic status form the fabric of a society. The Association also believes that education should foster the values of appreciation and acceptance of the various qualities that pertain to people as individuals and as members of diverse populations. The Association further believes in the importance of observances, programs and curricula that accurately portray and recognize the roles, contributions, cultures, and history of these diverse groups and individuals.

Discrimination and stereotyping based on such factors as race, gender, immigration status, disability, ethnicity, occupation, sexual orientation and gender identification must be eliminated. Plans, activities, and programs must â??

Increase respect, understanding, acceptance, and sensitivity toward individuals and groups in a diverse society composed of such groups as American Indians/Alaska natives, Asians and Pacific Islanders, Blacks, Hispanics, women, gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgendered persons, and people with disabilities

Eliminate discrimination and stereotyping in curricula, textbooks, resource and instructional materials, activities, etc.

Foster the dissemination and use of nondiscriminatory and nonstereotypical language, resources, practices, and activities

Integrate an accurate portrayal of the roles and contributions of all groups throughout history across curricula, particularly groups who have been under-represented historically

Eliminate subtle practices that favor the education of one student over another on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation or gender identification

Encourage all members of the educational community to examine assumptions and prejudices, including, but not limited to, racism, sexism, and homophobia, that might limit the opportunities and growth of students and education employees

Offer positive and diverse role models in our society including the recruitment, hiring, and promotion of diverse education employees in our public schools

Coordinate with organizations and concerned agencies that promote the contributions, heritage, culture, history, and special health and care needs of diverse population groups

The Association encourages its affiliates to develop and implement training programs on these matters.

The Association recognizes that the public school must assume an increasingly important role in providing the instruction of sex education. Teachers and health professionals must be qualified to teach in this area and must be legally protected from censorship and lawsuits. The Association also believes that to facilitate the realization of human potential, it is the right of every individual to live in an environment of freely available information and knowledge about sexuality and encourages affiliates and members to support appropriately established sex education programs. Such programs should include information on sexual abstinence, birth control and family planning, diversity of culture, diversity of sexual orientation and gender identification, parenting skills, prenatal care, sexually transmitted diseases, incest, sexual abuse, sexual harassment, homophobia.

The National Education Association believes that educational institutions should establish comprehensive human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) education programs as an integral part of the school curriculum.

The National Education Association believes that home schooling programs cannot provide the student with a comprehensive education experience. When home schooling occurs, students enrolled must meet all state requirements. Instruction should be by persons who are licensed by the appropriate state education licensure agency, and a curriculum approved by the state department of education should be used. The Association also believes that home-schooled students should not participate in any extracurricular activities in the public schools.

The National Education Association condemns the philosophy and practices of extremist groups and urges active opposition to all such movements that are inimical to the ideals of the Association.

The National Education Association believes that all persons, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identification, should be afforded equal opportunity and guaranteed a safe and inclusive environment within the public education system. The Association also believes that, for students who are struggling with their sexual orientation or gender identification, every school district and educational institution should provide counseling services and programs that deal with high suicide and dropout rates and the high incidence of teen prostitution.

The National Education Association supports family planning, including the right to reproductive freedom. The Association also urges the implementation of community-operated, school-based family planning clinics that will provide intensive counseling by trained personnel.

The Association opposes any federal legislation or mandate that would require school districts to schedule a moment of silence.

The National Education Association is committed to the elimination of discrimination based on race, ethnicity, economic status, religion, disability, sexual orientation, gender identification, age, and all other forms of discrimination. The Association encourages its members and all other members of the educational community to engage in courageous conversations in order to examine assumptions, prejudices, discriminatory practices, and their effects.

?

One key phrase that Iâ??ve heard Ken Ham say numerous times is, â??When they threw the Bible and prayer and the Ten Commandments out of the public schools, they didnâ??t throw religion out, they threw Christianity out. They replaced Christianity with another religion, the religion of Secular Humanism.â?? I remember six years ago when I first started at Answers in Genesis, I asked Ken Ham personally, while at his home, â??If we are fighting against a particular religion at AiG, what religion would that be?â?? He quickly answered, â??Secular Humanism.â?? I was very happy to hear that he understood the issue as I did. You see many folks may have never heard of this religious system, but it yields a very powerful influence in our culture.

?

?

Secular Humanism is a religion; it is a whole philosophical worldview that is devoid of God. It is secular because it rejects any theistic deity including the one and only true God of the Bible. It is humanistic because it makes man the measure of all things including truth. It is a faith system that has its foundations in the belief of molecules to man evolution. A worldview that ignores the true God, rejects the fact that God is sovereign and involved in the affairs of men, is a false worldview. It is not in line with reality. Yet secular humanism believes that there is no God, therefore we must educate our children according to naturalism or materialism (the false idea that nothing immaterial exists, nothing supernatural).

?

Back in the old days, children were either homeschooled or schooled in a system that acknowledged that God and His word as authoritative for all of life and practice. ? However, systematically over the last number of decades the humanists have been very strategic in winning over America to its religion. They have deliberately infiltrated and essentially taken over the majority of the public school system. The liberalism of the NEA proves this point. Weâ??ve seen it happen before out eyes, prayer thrown out, the Ten Commandments thrown out, prayer thrown out, all within our generation. The secular humanists are rabidly devoted to their religion. Listen to this quote from John Dunphy in the â??Humanistâ?? magazine in an article entitled â??A Religion for a New Ageâ??

?

â??I am convinced that the battle for humankindâ??s future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly perceive their role as the proselytizers of a new faith: a religion of humanity that recognizes and respects the spark of what theologians call divinity in every human being. These teachers must embody the same selfless dedication as the most rabid fundamentalist preachers, for they will be ministers of another sort, utilizing a classroom instead of a pulpit to convey humanist values in whatever subject they teach, regardless of the educational levelâ??preschool day care or large state university. The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old and the newâ??the rotting corpse of Christianity, together with all its adjacent evils and misery, and the new faith of humanism.â??

?

This religion of Secular Humanism is being taught in the government school system today and yet many Christians would dream that this educational system is â??neutralâ??. We must understand that education is inherently religious. The teacher and system will teach a certain worldview. Somehow Christians have allowed their faith to be shut up in this system. We have acquiesced to the humanists and committed the sin of silence. God commands us to teach our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, to teach â??in the name of Jesusâ??. Yet in the government school system, this is virtually outlawed. I would say, unlawfully outlawed. Unlawful in the sense of Godâ??s law has commanded us to teach in the name of Jesus, but manâ??s law (the American government) has forbidden this command. Listen to what Martin Luther said about a situation like this.

?

â??I would advise no one to send his child where the Holy Scriptures are not supreme. Every institution that does not unceasingly pursue the study of Godâ??s word becomes corrupt. Because of this we can see what kind of people they become in the universities and what they are like now. Nobody is to blame for this except the pope, the bishops, and the prelates, who are all charged with training young people. The universities only ought to turn out men who are experts in the Holy Scriptures, men who can become bishops and priests, and stand in the front line against heretics, the devil, and all the world. But where do you find that? I greatly fear that the universities, unless they teach the Holy Scriptures diligently and impress them on the young students, are wide gates to hell.â??

?

Is it wrong for Christians to send their children to be indoctrinated into another religious system such as Islam, Mormonism, Buddhism, etc? ? Many Christians may understand the fact that to be God honoring, one must explicitly acknowledge and worship the God of the Bible, Jesus Christ. What some may not see yet is that to dishonor God, one does not need to worship the devil, you simply have to ignore God. It is a false idea that to dishonor God you must explicitly blaspheme the holy name of God and that it is â??neutralâ?? to simply ignore God. To ignore God, to see Him as irrelevant, as non-existent and unnecessary for life is to dishonor Him. The religion of secular humanism is being taught in the government school system. They do not label it as such, but in essence children are being taught an atheistic worldview.

?

If you are a Christian reading this, may I ask you a question? Would you send your child to a Muslim mosque to be educated from K-12? Letâ??s assume youâ??re a missionary to a Muslim country and the free â??publicâ?? school system teaches about Allah and indoctrinates them into a false religion, but also teaches them the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic. Would you allow your child to be taught by these fundamentalist Islamists? If not, may I ask you why? Youâ??d probably answer because I want my children to know Christ and love Him and be educated in a system where He is honored and glorified. From my experience, every Christian Iâ??ve posed this question has agreed that it would be wrong for a Christian parent to send their children to be indoctrinated into another religious system. You may see the connection already, but to put it bluntly, the public school system in American is indoctrinating millions of Christian parentsâ?? children into another religious system, called secular humanism. If it would be wrong for you, as a Christian, to put your children into a Buddhist temple K through 12, then you should see that it would be wrong to also put that same child into a temple of secular humanism (Americaâ??s public schools) K through 12.

?

Let me encourage you as a fellow Christian to take seriously our duties as Christian parent to train up our children in the way of the Lord. I hope you can start to see that the real nature of the public education system is an anti-Christian agenda. A few resources that may be helpful to look further into this vital issue are www.TheHomeschoolMagazine.com and â??A Christian Philosophy of Educationâ?? by Dr. Gordon Clark and a DVD by Dr. David Noebel call â??Clergy in the Classroom: The Religion of Secular Humanismâ??.

Thank you so much for your prayers for this ministry outreach. We were successful in passing out thousands of pieces of materials to confront the culture with the truth of Genesis and the authority of the Bible. Our success comes by our faithfulness to proclaiming God’s Word as we leave the results to Him. Please pray that the Lord uses the materials that were passed out and works in the hearts of those people we were able to have conversations with. We also need to lift up in prayer the many Christian public school teachers and those brave souls with the Creation Educators Caucus. The light of the Creator can be shined brightly in the public school system, if those that He has placed there will let it shine and not put it under a lamp stand. We pray the Lord also blesses the many volunteers who came out to support the caucus and showed love in truth to the educators that were present.

The minds of our children are precious and their minds and hearts need to be taught the Truth. At present they are being taught the religion of secular humanism. There is a remnant left in the public school system that are trying to combat teaching that exalts man evolving to a higher level (now they donâ??t need god- they are god). They are also being taught there are no absolutes, absolutely! We know the material passed out can bring people back to the authority of the Scriptures, trusting in the Creator and submitting themselves to His plan and authority for our lives, education and nation. So please join with me once again in thanking the Lord for His graciousness and sovereignty in upholding this outreach.

Let us dedicate ourselves to teaching our children the true history of the world. The upcoming Answers in Genesis Creation Museum has summarized it as the â??7 Câ??s of Historyâ??. Please check out the various curriculums that Answers in Genesis has available at our online store. These exist to help you as parents, fathers, Sunday School teachers, home schoolers, and public school teachers & parents to train up your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Behold, children are an heritage of the Lord and our responsibility and privilege is great. Please pray that Answers in Genesis would continue to fulfill our mission of equipping the church to go and make disciples of all the nations. Thank you for following this outreach this year and Lord willing weâ??ll be in Philadelphia for NEA 2007. May the Lord bless you and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and sustainer of our faith.
