Meet a Team Member – Travis

Hi, my name is Travis. I’ve been sculpting here at the Museum since May of 2005.

Shortly after I started homeschooling in ninth grade (I attended public schools up until then), my neighbor introduced me to the idea that the earth was only 6,000 years old. I was sold right away and began to learn as much as I could about Creation, although I did not yet know the Lord Jesus. Toward the end of my sophomore year, I started to attend youth group, and that summer I became a believer. Even though my belief in Creation did not save me, it played a vital role in my coming to Christ. Since then, I’ve seen the importance of Genesis as a foundation.

Around two years ago, one of the AiG speakers, Carl Kerby, came to my church in Michigan to speak. My girlfriend’s parents talked to him after the service and mentioned that I sculpted. Carl then said that the museum project needed sculptors, and that I should visit and bring a portfolio. After school every day for a few months, I would go to my basement and work on pieces to create a portfolio to show the AiG Design Director, Patrick. In January of 2005, I took a trip down to the museum and was offered an internship starting in May after my high school graduation. When the internship was up, I decided to postpone college until the museum was finished. As that date approached, I decided not to go at all, since this job has become like college for me.

God has been growing and stretching me through each job, all of which are at least a little bit beyond what I’m comfortable doing. I’ve gained so much experience here working on things I wouldn’t have been able to do on my own (for lack of knowledge and resources) and learning from my co-workers. This job has been such an awesome blessing for me both educationally and spiritually. I’ve always had an interest in art and Creation and didn’t think it was possible to combine the two, until now.

Some of the projects I’ve been working on have been a relief sculpture of St. George and the Dragon, animals for the original animal kinds project, and 1/6 scale figures of Noah’s son Japheth and his wife. I’m currently jumping back and forth among various projects such as the “Tree of Life,” a lamb, and an iguanodon (a type of dinosaur).

Thanks again for joining us. We appreciate all of your prayers and support for the museum.
