Memorial Day 2020: Reflecting on God’s Goodness

The Creation Museum opened Memorial Day (May 28) in 2007, so we’re just a few days shy of our thirteen-year anniversary. And in just a few weeks, we will celebrate four years since the Ark Encounter opened on July 7, 2016. The Answers in Genesis ministry, of course, is much older (a few months ago we celebrated 26 years).

This ministry is his—he alone sustains, guides, and provides for us.

As I’ve shared many times before on blogs and web articles, we’ve experienced many “Red Sea” moments throughout the life of this ministry and the construction of our two attractions. These were times when we were closed in on all sides, like the Israelites during the exodus with the pharaoh right behind them, and really didn’t see a way out unless God parted the sea. And God has always parted the sea—not always in the way we imagined, but he always has. This ministry is his—he alone sustains, guides, and provides for us.

This coronavirus crisis has been the biggest Red Sea event we’ve ever experienced or could have imagined. And it’s certainly not over yet. But God has been faithful and will continue to be faithful. We praise the Lord that the Kentucky governor recently announced that museums can re-open on June 8. We had been working behind-the-scenes and were ready -- when he made that announcement -- with a preparedness plan. We worked hard to make our plans (our responsibility) and trusted God (his sovereignty) to work all things out. As James 4:15 says, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.”

God has sovereignly sustained this ministry throughout this difficult time, and he has done it through his people. So many of our supporters have generously given to allow us to pay staff, pay the bills that don’t go away just because we’re closed, and allow us to look towards re-opening. Re-opening, including bringing back the necessary attractions staff, will be expensive. We’re trusting God to provide what we need and asking his people to join with us in praying and giving towards this endeavor.

This Memorial Day as I reflect on the coming anniversary of the Creation Museum’s opening and everything that has been going on over the last few months, I also want to stop and thank the service men and women who have so wonderfully served this country and worked to protect our freedoms so that we can freely and boldly proclaim the truth of God’s Word here at the attractions and through our websites and other outreaches.

We have so much to be grateful for and to so many! But, above all, we thank our Lord who gives us “life and breath and everything else” (Acts 17:25).
