Helen Keller was not born blind and deaf but became so at the age of 19 months after a serious illness—a mistake on our part in this initial recording.

Whether or not Keller’s parents gave her limited instruction on a Creator God, there are other examples of an innate knowledge of God in Scripture, from David’s pronouncements in Psalm 22:9–10 to John the Baptist’s leaping in the womb at the presence of his Savior—please see Made in the image of God.

We also know from Scripture that God knows us—even before we are conceived (Ephesians 1:4). And Romans 1:20 holds us accountable for recognizing His existence, saying not just that it is evident but that the “invisible things” are “clearly seen.” Note that a “seeing” person has no advantage here over a blind one.
