The Bible is not accurate?

… AND "FUNDAMENTALISTS ARE 'DANGEROUS'"

The Catholic Church in the UK has issued a document to its millions of followers that states such things as:

The hierarchy of the Roman Catholic Church has published a teaching document instructing the faithful that some parts of the Bible are not actually true.

The Catholic bishops of England, Wales and Scotland are warning their five million worshippers, as well as any others drawn to the study of Scripture, that they should not expect "total accuracy" from the Bible.

[...]but the first 11 chapters of Genesis, in which two different and at times conflicting stories of creation are told, are among those that this country’s Catholic bishops insist cannot be "historical". At most, they say, they may contain "historical traces"[...]

[...]The Bible is true in passages relating to human salvation, they say, but continue: "We should not expect total accuracy from the Bible in other, secular matters."

They go on to condemn fundamentalism for its "intransigent intolerance" and to warn of "significant dangers" involved in a fundamentalist approach.[...]

As examples of passages not to be taken literally, the bishops cite the early chapters of Genesis, comparing them with early creation legends from other cultures, especially from the ancient East. The bishops say it is clear that the primary purpose of these chapters was to provide religious teaching and that they could not be described as historical writing.

Well, we attended our local church today---what a blessing after being away for the past few weeks. Next Sunday Mally and I will be in California.

Thanks so much to all of you who supported AiG this past year-we look forward to the new year with great anticipation for great things. It sort of starts off with a "Big Bang!" as our first engagement is the debate between Dr. Jason Lisle and myself against Dr. Hugh Ross and Dr. Walter Kaiser, this coming Tuesday and Wednesday in Chattanooga, TN, hosted by John Ankerburg. As Dr. Ross accepts the "big bang" billions of years history of the universe, it should be a lively debate. Jason and I will be pointing out the scientific and biblical inconsistencies of holding such a position and forcing it into infallible Scripture.

Thanks for praying and stopping by,

Ken
