During some of my recent travels, I have had a number of young people tell me they were doing AiG’s ONLINE course. I heard exciting testimonies from these young men and women as they told me how much this course had helped them.
One of our online professors, is Dr. Georgia Purdom (PhD, Ohio State Univ., molecular genetics). She came to AiG after leaving a position as a Christian college professor. However, Georgia has found she is still teaching students—from all over the world. Georgia wrote out a testimony concerning coming to AiG and the education opportunities she has in this ministry:
“When I was offered a position with AiG in Spring of 2005 I was excited but also hesitant as I would be giving up my college teaching career. I had enjoyed teaching college students at a small Christian college over the past 5 years (although I admit I didn’t care for all the grading and administrative duties). Little did I know that at AiG I would have plenty of opportunities for teaching (minus most of the administrative red tape)!”I have had the pleasure of speaking locally to a variety of groups including women’s groups and AiG conferences. Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to speak to a group of college students at the Creation Museum. They were very enthusiastic and it brought back fond memories of my teaching days.”One of the greatest teaching opportunities I have had is instructing courses in the Answers Education Online program. I’ll have to admit I was skeptical of teaching in an online format having been taught and having taught by the “in person” method. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of interaction between the students and myself through the various online formats and have made life-long friends. The classes focus on creation apologetics and provide students with the ammunition they need in the war concerning our origins.
”I’ve “met” people from all over the world without ever leaving my office. Around 400 people have taken the basic course, Foundations in Creation Apologetics (APO 101), since we began offering it last Fall. In addition, our specialty classes in Bible, Biology, Geology, and Astronomy have benefited those seeking more in-depth coverage of creation apologetics. I am amazed at how much I have learned even though I’m the teacher! The testimonies we’ve received from students have been very encouraging. Some are hearing this information for the first time and it’s exciting to watch the “lights” go on. Many are using the information they have learned to make a difference in their home, church, school, and community.
”This testimony came from one of the students in the Fall 2007 class:
I’ve already used the course material in my 8th grade Bible study group. I know that many of the students have been well indoctrinated into the evolutionary philosophy, and the course has helped me to counteract and lay a foundation for understanding the Bible.
Yesterday I was getting a haircut from a new young lady barber that just moved to our town. I invited her and her fiancé to church and you would have thought that I asked her to take a trip to Mars. The non-verbal communication on her face was “why would I want to waste my time and do that?” We’re definitely living in a pagan (Greek) culture. Next haircut, I plan to ask her some questions to determine her worldview, which I’m sure is evolutionistic humanism. If she takes the bait, I hope to be able to share what I’ve learned in the course about creation, the trustworthiness of the Bible, and the need for a relationship with the Savior.
”Using the knowledge I have gained through working at AiG has also opened doors for me to teach at my local church. An AiG colleague and I just finished teaching a series in our local church on defending the trustworthiness of the Bible.
”I remember a reporter asking me in an interview before I began working for AiG why I would give up my teaching career. At the time I answered, I’m not because I’ll still be teaching at AiG. I had no idea at the time the full extent of teaching and learning opportunities that AiG offered. I am so thankful for the opportunities I have had, and I really don’t feel as if I’ve “left” teaching at all!”
I praise the Lord for talented staff like Georgia whom the Lord brought into this ministry. For those of you reading my blog and are living in Australia, I will be speaking this coming Sunday on the Gold Coast (south of Brisbane). Thanks for stopping by and thanks for prayingKen
