Extreme or Consistent?

by Ken Ham

You might be interested to read an article in Christianity Today on Peter Singer (from Princeton University). This article does not contain new information in regard to what Peter Singer believes—we’ve written about him on the AiG website and in other articles. However, at this time when atheistic evolution is being promoted more than ever in our culture, it is good to be reminded of what a consistent evolutionist believes (and that’s the point—Singer is being totally consistent—whereas most evolutionists end up being inconsistent in regard to morality):

[Peter] Singer is a mild-mannered fellow who speaks calmly and lucidly. Yet you wouldn't have to read his work too long to find his extreme positions. He cheerfully advocates infanticide and euthanasia and, in almost the same breath, favors animal rights. Even most liberals would have qualms about third-trimester abortions; Singer does not hesitate to advocate what may be termed fourth-trimester abortions, i.e., the killing of infants after they are born.
Singer writes, “My colleague Helga Kuhse and I suggest that a period of 28 days after birth might be allowed before an infant is accepted as having the same right to life as others.” Singer argues that even pigs, chickens, and fish have more signs of consciousness and rationality—and, consequently, a greater claim to rights—than do fetuses, newborn infants, and people with mental disabilities. “Rats are indisputably more aware of their surroundings, and more able to respond in purposeful and complex ways to things they like or dislike, than a fetus at 10- or even 32-weeks gestation. . . . The calf, the pig, and the much-derided chicken come out well ahead of the fetus at any stage of pregnancy.”
To understand Singer, it's helpful to contrast him with “New Atheists” like Christopher Hitchens, Daniel Dennett, and Richard Dawkins. The New Atheists say we can get rid of God but preserve morality. They insist that no one needs God in order to be good; atheists can act no less virtuously than Christians.
But this position creates a problem outlined more than a century ago by the atheist philosopher Nietzsche. The death of God, Nietzsche argued, means that all the Christian values that have shaped the West rest on a mythical foundation.

Feedback

Here is an encouraging email received this past week:
I just read Ken Ham’s letter he recently sent out concerning his history and God's leading to America and also the hostile feedback from professing Christians and non-Christians alike. I want to say…WE LOVE YOU ALL AT ANSWERS IN GENESIS!!!! Keep on. Don't give in or give up (Iknow you won’t) God is in charge of all that is happening. I have to fight fear with God’s Word everyday. . . . But none of God’s opposers are conscious that God is there and will act when His time is right. God, the creator will win in the end. He will have the last word. As the Psalmist says “he will have them in derision.” So, we will continue to speak and live Christ at our peril that some who are decieved might come to know Jesus, their Creator and Saviour. I wish I had a million dollars and the freedom to spend every waking minute spreading the truth. God bless you. We are on God’s side with you. . . . Courage brothers and sisters.

Devotion

From greatest to smallest

(Mark 5:43) And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat. (Mark 6:31) And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.

From the greatest of our needs, like being raised up from the dead, to the smallest, like needing food and rest, the Lord Jesus Christ provides for us, and we thank Him.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,

Ken
