A Reminder

1. We need to be reminded that because we sinned in Adam, we now live in a fallen world. It is not God’s fault that terrible things happen—it is our fault because we sin against a Holy God (Romans 5:12; Romans 3:23).
2. Our God of love stepped into history to pay the penalty for our sin and offers a free gift of salvation to save us from what we have done (John 3:16; Romans 5:8; Romans 10:9).
3. As we live in this groaning world (Romans 8:22), we need to support and pray for our relatives. Everyone, by the way, is our relative—going all the way back to Adam and Eve (1 Timothy 6:16–19).
4. Pray for America—pray for its leaders—pray that America as a nation will repent of any sin and turn to the God of creation—and build this society on the authority of the Word of God.

As you might guess, the final photo is of “Ground Zero,” the spot where the Twin Towers once stood in New York City. It was taken two years ago by Mark Looy of our staff when he and I stopped by the site. With the two lobby photos of the Tower we have posted here, I recall that Mark told me that just a few months before 9/11/01, he was inside that lobby to purchase Broadway tickets at the half-price ticket office that was once located there.

It’s a very sobering experience to be at Ground Zero.

Writing our own prescription

(Numbers 10:31–32) And he said, Leave us not, I pray you; forasmuch as you know how we are to encamp in the wilderness, and you may be to us instead of eyes. And it shall be, if you go with us, yes, it shall be, that what goodness the LORD shall do unto us, the same will we do unto you.

When we say that we need anything or anyone along with God to rely on, we have just written our own prescription for that person or thing to be removed.
