Don’t Miss the Spectacular Christmas Town

Christmas is just around the corner, and here at the Creation Museum we are busy preparing for our annual Christmas Town. And this year it’s even more exciting as we add new events, more lights, and, of course, the return of a live Nativity. This year, attendees will get to enjoy a special musical program by Buddy Davis and me, and I will also be giving a Christmas talk. I thought I would share with you the press release* about this exciting—and largely free—Christmas event.

The highly popular Christmas festivities at the Creation Museum—called Christmas Town—are returning this year but with new additions, yet once again featuring its centerpiece: a live Nativity. For 2014, even more lights (tens of thousands total) will be placed on the scenic property for guests to enjoy as they walk the pathways around the museum’s lake. Attracting up to 25,000 people, Christmas Town this year will be held every Friday and Saturday evening in December. Most of the events are free.

As a bonus this year, museum Founder and President Ken Ham will join recording artist Buddy Davis each Christmas Town day (except December 5) from 4–5:15 p.m. for a special program. They will hold a fun, musical teaching program (Ken will speak on who the Babe in the manger was and will connect Christmas to the book of Genesis), and guests will also have the opportunity to sing along with Buddy some of their favorite Christmas carols. Davis, who built many of the museum’s dinosaur models, will also perform some of his own music during the special program. Visitors can then walk outside to enjoy the lights as it begins to get dark after 5:15.

With many more lights and the addition of Ken Ham and Buddy Davis to the program, museum officials expect to break the previous attendance record (weather permitting).

Christmas Town largely remains free. It has become a favorite annual tradition for families in the Tri-State and beyond. An on-site survey conducted at Christmas Town indicated that the average family travels 132 miles one way to Petersburg, Kentucky (west of the Cincinnati Airport) to be a part of this event. To handle the expected crowds this year, more parking has been added and a new walking route has been created through the brilliantly lit grounds to keep the lines moving, even on the busiest evenings.

For the second year, Christmas Town guests will have the opportunity to ride the popular zip line over the museum’s beautiful three-acre lake, and soar over what many guests say is the most spectacular Christmas light show in the area. (There is a charge for the zip line.)

With a live Nativity on the museum’s beautifully decorated grounds, Christmas Town presents the true meaning of Christmas. In addition, Christmas Town provides families a glimpse into the amazing events surrounding the wonder of Christ’s birth.

The Creation Museum is located in Petersburg, Kentucky, at exit 11 off I-275, only two exits west of the Cincinnati Airport. This year, Christmas Town will be held every Friday/Saturday evening in December: December 5–6, 12–13, 19–20, 26–27.

Over the next few weeks, groundskeepers will be transforming the museum’s large property into a “Garden of Lights” featuring a breathtaking display of tens of thousands of Christmas lights. Previous visitors have indicated that it’s the most dazzling show of Christmas lights in the entire region. Inside the museum, an array of Christmas items will be on sale in the bookstore.

The museum’s acclaimed planetarium will present its special ticketed program, The Christmas Star, about the mysterious star in the east that heralded the birth of Jesus and guided the wise men to Him.

Noah’s Café will serve a tasty turkey dinner (only $6.99), with festive food and drinks also for sale.

Christmas Town at the Creation Museum is our way to say ‘thank you’ to our community for its support and to offer families a free gift at Christmas—complimentary admission to Christmas Town.”

Christmas Town is open 5–8 p.m. ET each Friday and Saturday evening in December, with the prelude featuring Ken Ham and Buddy Davis beginning at 4 p.m. All the outdoor events (except for the camel rides and zip line) are free. Inside, museum admission on Christmas Town days is only $5 after 5 p.m. (last entry is at 8 p.m.) The 4 p.m. Christmas program in Legacy Hall led by Ken Ham and Buddy Davis does not require a museum ticket to enter and is free to all. A free Christmas bronze ornament and booklet about Christmas will be given to each family, and children will receive a complimentary Christmas coloring book.
