American Atheists’ Billboards Encourage People to “Skip Church” This Christmas

With Christmas season upon us, once again the American Atheists have their newest series of anti-God billboards set up around the country. These billboards encourage people to skip church this Christmas. By the way, have you noticed that the atheists only seem to attack Christianity! That’s because it’s ultimately a spiritual issue—a very real spiritual battle.

American Atheist Billboard American Atheist Billboard

According to their website,

This billboard campaign is specifically aimed at that growing population, especially those who no longer believe but still occasionally attend religious services or call themselves religious despite their lack of belief.

Why Do They Care?

The American Atheists reject Christ yet they spend much time and money talking a lot about Him at Christmas. Their billboards have no positive message—except positively promoting their anti-God religion. These billboards reflect the American Atheists’ true message: to attack God and Christians and to encourage people to shake their fist at God. They want to impose their religion of naturalism and their worship of the god of self on the entire culture.

If we are all just going to die . . . why do they care if people go to church at Christmas?

Why do they care so much? If we are all just going to die, and that’s it, we’re dead, why do atheists even care if people go to church at Christmas? Ultimately it doesn’t matter if anyone did or didn’t go to church, according to their worldview. And yet the atheists do care—a lot! Why?

Well, the Bible says that they “suppress the truth in unrighteousness” (Romans 1:18). They know the truth—God is clearly seen in what He has made (verse 20). But they don’t want to submit to Him as Lord of their lives, so they repress the truth and encourage others to do the same. It’s a spiritual problem of “lov[ing] darkness rather than light” (John 3:19).

Hopeless, Meaningless, and Purposeless

If you die and that’s the end, what hope is there?

Really, these new billboards should say, “Live a hopeless, meaningless, purposeless life—become an American Atheist.” Atheism doesn’t offer any true hope, meaning, or purpose in life. If you die and that’s the end, what hope is there? What meaning is there to anything you do while alive? And why bother doing anything? It ultimately won’t matter anyway.

Reaching “Nones” This Christmas

The number of Americans—particularly in the millennial generation—who call themselves nonreligious (though everyone has a religion, including non-theistic ones) is growing every year. Our hearts should break for these individuals who have bought the lie that there is no God and no coming judgment. They are headed for a Christless eternity!

Christmas is a wonderful opportunity to reach out to these “nones” with the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ. One way you can start a gospel-centered conversation is by bringing your unbelieving family and friends to the Creation Museum near Cincinnati for our free Christmas Town outreach. This spectacular family event features outdoor and indoor aspects, including a live Nativity, tens of thousands of Christmas lights, concerts, and much more. Learn more at CreationMuseum.org/Christmas.

Or simply invite your coworkers, neighbors, and friends to go to your church’s Christmas Eve or Christmas Day service with you. Research shows a large percentage of people will actually go when asked! You just might be surprised how God uses a simple invitation to plant seeds of the gospel. This might open up opportunities for further conversations, allowing you to answer their questions or objections and present the gospel to them.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
