Sharing the Gospel Along the Path of the Total Solar Eclipse

People have been buzzing with excitement about the upcoming total solar eclipse. The eclipse will be visible on August 21, 2017, across a swath of North America, including an area just three to four hours southwest of where we are in Northern Kentucky. In Oregon, at the invitation of the Design Science Association, AiG astronomer Dr. Danny Faulkner will be speaking at several eclipse-related events and leading a viewing of the total eclipse.

On the other end of America, one of AiG’s friends is using the widespread “eclipse mania” to spread the gospel in a unique way in South Carolina—and you can get involved!

Jon Orcutt started a personal evangelistic project that he has “expanded with a big bang!” He raised enough funding to purchase nearly 6,000 of our What Does the Bible Say About Astronomy? booklets. These short booklets are a great way to share the gospel with others, especially during a time when so many people are interested in astronomy.

Join the Team or Start Your Own

Several evangelism teams are distributing these booklets at the major eclipse event venues in upstate South Carolina, including in Greenville, Simpsonville, and Fountain Inn. Jon is inviting individuals and families to join one of these teams or request booklets of their own (at no charge) to distribute before, the day of, or after the eclipse at their schools, home school groups, churches, youth groups, or at any eclipse events they might attend. These booklets will point people to a biblical view of astronomy, the truth and authority of God’s Word, and ultimately the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Hear an AiG Speaker on the Eclipse Path

AiG’s Dr. Terry Mortenson will be speaking four times at the First Baptist of Lexington in Lexington, South Carolina, the Sunday before the eclipse, August 20, 2017. This city is along the path of the eclipse. Dr. Mortenson’s sessions, taking place in the morning and evening, include

  • Creation vs. Evolution: Why It Matters
  • Origin of Species: Was Darwin Right?
  • Big Bang: Exploding the Myth
  • Ape-men, Adam, and the Gospel

This event is free and open to anyone who would like to attend. Learn more on our events page.
