Federal Judge Strikes Down Law That Would Have Saved Lives

A United States federal judge recently struck down a Kentucky law that would have saved the lives of perhaps hundreds of unborn children. This proposed law would require abortion providers to both “display and describe a patient’s ultrasound as well as play the fetal heartbeat to the pregnant woman.” Essentially, this law would inform mothers before they make the tragic decision to murder their unborn child. But US District Judge David Hale determined this somehow violates the First Amendment and the rights of the physicians performing the abortions.

Paul Chitwood, executive director of the Kentucky Baptist Convention, says of the ruling,

Judge Hale and the ACLU have brought injustice rather than justice to expectant mothers and their unborn children. Rather than ensuring a mother is fully informed about the abortion procedure, its risks and consequences, they use wild claims about the First Amendment to shroud the slaughter of sons and daughters. . . . Not only is abortion the only legal murder in the US, it is an immensely serious medical procedure with significant risks. . . . Judge Hale and these liberal lawyers want the surgery to be regulated as if it were no more complicated than a doctor’s visit for a sore throat.1

Those who support abortion (murder) don't want women to fully understand what they are doing (even though some admittedly know that they are ending the life of a helpless human being). That’s why they are against measures to inform women about abortion and the life of the child they are killing.

But pro-life ministries have demonstrated over and over again that when women see an ultrasound image of their baby or hear their heartbeat, and when they are informed of their options (such as adoption) and offered real help and hope, they overwhelmingly choose life for their child. For example, the pro-life ministry Save the Storks reports that 64% of women feel pressured by others to abort their baby, but four out of five pregnant women who board their buses to receive a free ultrasound will choose life. Showing them their child and giving them options empowers women (and men!) to choose life. Sadly, those who support the murder of the unborn—such as Judge Hale—don’t want the lives of these unborn children to be spared.

Rather than causing mothers to experience distress, ultrasounds and fetal heartbeat monitors inform a mother and empower her to choose life.

Abortion providers don’t care about women or children—if they did, they wouldn’t be opposed to showing a woman her unborn child and keeping her from making an informed decision. Without having full information, the woman may make a decision that she will regret later, as many have. The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) claims that the proposed Kentucky law “‘appears to inflict psychological harm on abortion patients,’ and causes them to ‘experience distress as a result.’” But, rather than causing mothers to experience distress, ultrasounds and fetal heartbeat monitors inform a mother and empower her to choose life—saving the life of the baby and relieving the intense psychological distress abortion often inflicts on women and men.

The ACLU does not care about the liberties of an unborn baby. From the moment of fertilization a baby has all the genetic information with a unique combination—biblically and scientifically, a human being is formed at the moment of fertilization. Abortion is the murder of children. Yet a group that is supposed to stand for the civil liberties of Americans refuses to acknowledge the humanity and the right to life of the most vulnerable among us—the unborn.

Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin is appealing the ruling by Judge Hale, and I encourage you to join with us in praying that the ruling will be repealed, that the law will go through, and that many more women and men will be informed about the life of their precious baby and will choose life, not death.

I encourage you to learn more about the value of life on our website or in our DVD series The Sanctity of Life, available from our online store.

We also invite and encourage ladies of all ages to attend our upcoming Answers for Women conference April 6–7, 2018, here in Northern Kentucky (just north of our Ark Encounter attraction). The theme this year is Contending for Life. You’ll be equipped and encouraged to stand for the most vulnerable among us, including the unborn. Learn more at AnswersforWomen.org.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
