Australians Afraid to Speak Out Against Gay “Marriage”

A recent article in The Christian Post highlighted statements from various Australians about the upcoming gay “marriage” (nonbinding) postal survey that will presumably determine if parliament will hold a vote on same-sex “marriage” this year. They write, “Churches and campaigners in Australia opposed to legalizing gay marriage say that ‘no’ voters are afraid to share their views because they will be branded as ‘bigots’ and mocked by society.”

They quote a Coalition for Marriage advocate who says, “A lot of ‘no’ voters are keeping their opinions to themselves” and that he believes the vote will be a close one because “people are really sick of being pushed [by] an agenda.”

An Anglican Minister who is voting “no” stated, “I also voted No as history has shown from other western countries such as Canada and Britain that legalizing same-sex marriage has eroded both religious rights and freedom of speech for people of various backgrounds.” The Christian Post cites two examples from Australia where the upcoming vote has already impacted freedom of speech: one young lady was fired from her job for putting an “It’s Okay to Vote No” filter on her Facebook profile, and a church in Brisbane received arson threats after they posted a billboard stating marriage was for a man and woman.

Of course, this intolerance shouldn’t come as a surprise. We’re seeing it all across Westernized nations—the LGBT lobby and many of their supporters are extremely intolerant of those who hold to a biblical view of marriage. They claim they want tolerance, but what they really want is their views about marriage, gender, and family to be imposed on the culture and any dissenting voices to be silenced. They don’t want tolerance; they want everyone to celebrate their sinful lifestyle. This intolerance is permeating Western culture.

As believers, we must continue to proclaim the truth of God’s Word and the saving gospel, regardless of the political or social climate.

Join Us for Re-Engage in Australia

I encourage my fellow Aussie believers to get equipped to speak out, starting from the foundation of God’s Word as the ultimate authority. Our views on marriage aren’t based on mere opinion but on the absolute standard of God’s Word—he’s the Creator and author of marriage, and he has defined what it is (and what it is not) in his Word. Gay “marriage” is a deviation from God’s design and is a sinful lifestyle.

Get equipped to speak biblical truth at Re-Engage in Brisbane, Australia. Geologist Dr. Andrew Snelling (AiG’s director of research) and I are coming to Australia November 24–25, 2017, for our only public speaking event Down Under this year. Through the teaching sessions, you’ll be equipped to communicate God’s truth in a secular culture. You’ll also learn about Flood geology, combatting racism, radioactive dating methods, and much more. Plan to attend this unique creation-apologetics event Friday evening and all-day Saturday.

This conference, taking place at Mueller Community Church near Brisbane, is coming up fast. I encourage you to register today at ReEngage.org.au.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
