Season 2 of Bill Nye Saves the World Hits Netflix

Season two of Bill Nye “the Science Guy’s” Netflix show, Bill Nye Saves the World, was recently released. Two staff members viewed the episodes that were pertinent to origins and historical science, and they wrote a short review you can read below. But, as a quick summary, and as we’ve said before, Bill Nye is not kid friendly at all (this new show is geared toward millennials), and both seasons of this show’s content (which pushes a secular view of origins and morality) are certainly not appropriate for children. He is definitely not Bill Nye the kid-friendly guy! Beware!

Bill Nye Saves the World is styled after a late-night talk show, with special guests and correspondents, and Bill Nye himself acting as a talk-show host of sorts. As with season one, season two, though geared toward adults, comes across as rather childish and cheesy with rather light science and simple experiments, particularly if intended for even young adults. There is not much new to say, except to point out again that there is some foul, inappropriate, and suggestive language, especially in the episode on STDs and superbugs (which also makes the misleading and erroneous claim that antibiotic resistance in bacteria is an example of evolution—meaning, of course, millions-of-years, molecules-to-man evolution—in action). The episode on mass extinctions, predictably, emphasizes a naturalistic view of earth’s history, including millions of years and biological evolution.

This show is certainly not a show for children. Although some observational science is included, the bulk of the show is dedicated to entertainment and pushing a secular worldview, rather than teaching science. We echo here what we wrote in our original review of season one:

Bill Nye’s starting point is obvious in his show. He rejects the Creator and his Word and instead relies on human reasoning to solve the world’s problems (real or perceived). And though origins/evolutionary science won’t solve anything, man’s God-given intellect in a designed universe makes it so observational science can be used to alleviate some of the problems. But man can’t fix what we broke in Genesis 3. That’s why we eagerly wait for Christ’s return and the new heavens and new earth he will create where there will be no more death, suffering, pain, or Curse. And we pray that Bill Nye and unbelievers watching his show will bow their proud hearts, stop trusting in their own wisdom and morality, and humbly place their faith and trust in Jesus Christ—the only way to God the Father (John 14:6)—and his finished work on the Cross.

(Really it should be titled “Bill Nye Needs to be Saved.”)

Watch Is Genesis History? On Netflix

If you’re looking for something good to watch on Netflix—a program that honors the Lord as Creator and teaches science, starting with God’s Word—I encourage you to watch Is Genesis History? This powerful documentary is currently available on Netflix and features over a dozen scientists and other experts, including a few you will recognize from Answers in Genesis. Host Del Tackett meets these experts in the field to discuss what science and God’s Word tell us about origins. It’s a fascinating documentary and totally kid friendly (unlike Bill Nye Saves the World).

But, don’t worry, if you don’t have Netflix, there are other opportunities to see it and share it with others. Is Genesis History? is coming back to theaters for a special anniversary showing February 22. Included is a new segment, a special walk-through of the Ark Encounter with Del and three students from Wheaton College (where most professors would not stand with AiG on a literal Genesis/young earth). You won’t want to miss this special showing. Learn more, and find a theater showing the film near you, at IsGenesisHistory.com.

Is Genesis History? is also available on DVD from our online store. The folks behind this documentary have also recently released a Bible study of Genesis chapters 1–11 to accompany the documentary. This is a great resource for small group or Sunday school study. Learn more at AnswersBookstore.com.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
