Is the God of the Old Testament Different from the God of the New Testament?

A common argument made by skeptics against the truth of God’s Word is that there are two different Gods in the Bible—the supposed harsh God of the Old Testament and the kind, loving God of the New Testament. But is that a good argument?

When you read through the Bible and see what it actually reveals about God both in the Old and the New Testaments, you will clearly see the same God.

Not at all. When you read through the Bible and see what it actually reveals about God both in the Old and the New Testaments, you will clearly see the same God. In both testaments, he is kind, merciful, gracious, just, holy, wrathful against sin, and wanting all to come to repentance. In both testaments, God responds to his people with love and patience, even when they are lost in sin. And in both testaments, he eventually judges sin.

Dr. Christopher Cone, the president of Calvary University, was recently interviewed by Billy Hallowell for the Pure Talk show “Answering Atheists.” It’s available to watch on Facebook and is a production of Pure Flix, the leading faith and family-friendly video streaming service. He answered this question, as well as several other “tough questions” atheists frequently lob at Christians. I encourage you to watch it:
