The Ark Has Gone Green

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear has been asking people in our state to light businesses, homes, landmarks, etc., in the color green. He stated: “We’re going to light the Kentucky governor’s mansion green. Green is the color of compassion, it’s the color of empathy . . . Let people know that we are thinking about them, that we care about them, that we love every single Kentuckian around us.” A number of public buildings, businesses, and landmarks have now been lit green throughout Kentucky.

In support of this effort, we changed the lighting system at the Ark Encounter last night to show the life-size Ark in a stunning green color. As Christians, we need to show compassion, as the Bible instructs us:

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind . . . You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:37–39).
“Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Colossians 3:12 NIV).
“in humility value others above yourselves” (Philippians 2:3 NIV).

It’s also fitting the Ark be green at this time as we approach the Easter weekend. The lit cross on the Ark’s door is spectacular when surrounded by green light. This reminds us of the compassion God has for us, because “God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). Also: “Gracious is the LORD, and righteous; Yes, our God is compassionate” (Psalm 116:5 NKJV). And: “I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved . . .” (John 10:9).

Yes, compassion is a great word for Easter.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
