“When Is Jennifer the Science Lady Coming Back?”

A few weeks ago, on February 4, 2022, I was reminded during a big ice storm that it was the 8th anniversary of my debate with “Bill Nye the Science Guy” at the Creation Museum. The debate occurred during an ice storm, and then exactly eight years later, we went through another one!

A few days later, I was reminded of it yet again when a staff member, former forensic scientist and now our education content administrator, Dr. Jennifer Rivera, shared a story with me. She enjoys speaking to youth groups, presenting the truth of God’s Word using science, and showing how science confirms the Bible. One particular group has had Jennifer speak several times, and she said each time the children were fully engaged (that’s not always easy with youth groups!)—one student even received Christ after one of the programs! Praise the Lord!

This group is composed largely of public school students who love the biblical truths and science teaching they are never exposed to in public school. Jennifer shared, “They ask questions and you can see their minds thinking beyond the evolutionary rhetoric for the first time.” Well, this group has given Jennifer a new nickname—“Jennifer the Science Lady,” a play off of “Bill Nye the Science Guy.”

It’s exciting to see young people who are hungry to learn more about God’s Word and God’s world!

Apparently, the kids are always asking the youth pastor, “When is Jennifer the Science Lady coming back?” It’s exciting to see young people who are hungry to learn more about God’s Word and God’s world!

We are passionate about reaching the next generation with the truth of God’s Word and the gospel message, sharing how science confirms the Bible—and that it’s God’s Word that provides the proper starting point for our thinking in all areas. Here are just a few of the many ways we’re doing that:

  • High school science labs. Our labs at the Creation Museum take place throughout the school year, giving students a total of 12 days (24 sessions) of hands-on lab experience. Students explore observational science while learning from expert instructors (including “Jennifer the Science Lady”!) who all love God’s Word and believe in a historical Genesis. For the 2022–2023 school year, we’re offering biology, chemistry, environmental science, forensic science, and physical science labs.

And, for the first time, we’re offering two of these labs—biology and chemistry—as week-long intensives at the Ark Encounter. We’re so excited that our brand-new lab in the lower level of the Answers Center will be ready for this summer and will be filled with students excitedly studying creation through the lens of a biblical worldview. Jennifer recently shared a few photos with me of her and her team moving supplies into the lab in preparation for this summer.

These intensives cover 15 essential labs in one week, allowing students from outside our area to come and enjoy the expert teaching they otherwise might not be able to due to travel. We are thrilled to now be able to offer this much-requested option!

  • Explore Days and Explore Camp. Explore Days are full days of hands-on science learning presented from a biblical worldview perspective. They are extremely popular, and we even have an Explore Jr. option for younger students. Topics include biology, astronomy, zoology, forensics, physical science, and much more.

Explore Camp is a day camp at the Creation Museum that allows students aged 11–18 to dive deeper into their favorite science topics while developing their biblical worldview. Campers will participate in a variety of interactive sessions, experiments, scavenger hunts, behind-the-scenes experiencesm, and much more. Most importantly, students will learn how science confirms the Bible and how they can trust God’s Word from the very first verse in Genesis.

  • Discover programs. Our Discover series are free daily programs that take place at the Creation Museum for our guests of all ages (with different programs geared towards different ages). Many of these are hands-on and teach science with a biblical worldview—families love them! Topics include carnivorous plants, astronomy, dinosaurs, DNA fingerprinting, forensic anthropology, and so many more.

You can find all of our daily programs on our Creation Museum website.

  • Speaking at churches, Christian schools, and more. You can request one of our dynamic, expert speakers to come to your church, Christian school, homeschool group, conference, or other event on our website. Young people and adults love the faith-affirming answers and access to resources they find at an Answers event.

And that’s just a fraction of what we’re doing to reach young people with the truth that science confirms the Bible and that Christians love (and do!) science. We praise the Lord for the opportunities he’s given us to be able to present truth to people of all ages, including the next generation.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
