Nothing New

There is nothing new under the sun. (Ecclesiastes 1:9)

Many Christians have asked me what is happening in our culture concerning the dramatic rise in moral relativism and the increasing prevalence of the LGBTQ worldview. They’ve said, “We’ve never seen our culture like this before, nor have we seen the battle over transgenderism as we see it regarding children today. What is happening to our culture?”

Many seem to think that what is happening is new. But it’s not new. We are just seeing it in ways we never have before in the West.

Really, “there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). The heart of man is still as described in Scripture: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick” (Jeremiah 17:9). There are still more on the broad way than the narrow way, and men still love “the darkness rather than the light because their works [are] evil” (John 3:19).

Ever since the fall (Genesis 3), there has been a battle between light and darkness. It’s a battle between good and evil, between God’s Word and man’s fallible word.

Now, because of the history of the US, the Judeo-Christian ethic founded in the Bible permeated the culture. Most non-Christians accepted that marriage is between one man and one woman, that there are only two genders of humans—male and female—and that abortion kills a human being.

The spiritual battle between light and darkness was still raging in the culture, but it was as if a big curtain (a mostly Christianized worldview) shielded us from seeing it. But over time, as the education system became more secularized (more atheistic), progressively removing the Bible and Christian teaching—and as most churches and Christian institutions compromised God’s Word in Genesis and endorsed the secular system that was indoctrinating generations of children—the more secularized the younger generations became.

We now see that Generation Z is the most atheistic generation in the history of this nation and is called a post-Christian generation. The more atheistic they become, the more they will build their morality on man’s word and thus be their own gods and aggressively promote what they are committed to—moral relativism. That’s what we are seeing.

It’s as if the curtain has been drawn back and the spiritual battle that’s always been there is now allowed to run rampant in the culture.

The solution has always been the truth of God’s Word and the saving gospel.

What’s the solution? The solution has always been the truth of God’s Word and the saving gospel. Answers in Genesis is at the forefront of this battle, equipping people to defend the Christian faith against the secular attacks of our day, helping parents and leaders to raise up godly generations, and challenging the world concerning God’s Word and the gospel of Jesus Christ. It’s all part of carrying out the words of Jesus: “And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation’” (Mark 16:15, emphasis added).

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
