Do Aussie Animals Love the Snow?

Our first snowstorm this winter for Northern Kentucky arrived last week. It turned the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter into beautiful winter wonderlands. Schools in the area had a snow day, and staff were delayed getting into the Answers in Genesis offices because of the condition of many of the roads. But, despite the problems and delays the snow caused, it looked beautiful, and you may be surprised by some of the zoo animals that were thrilled with the cold and snow!

But before that, I’d like to thank our grounds crews. Because they worked hard through the night to clear the roads and parking lots to make them safe for guests and staff, the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum opened on time. (Of course, in places like Wyoming, they would never close down because of a few inches of snow!)

Enjoy these photos of the Creation Museum and gardens. The snow is now gone as we’re getting a “heatwave” with temperatures going into the 40s—a dramatic change from the below-zero temperatures last week and over the weekend.

Now, which animals enjoyed all the snow? Well, you probably don’t often put Australian kangaroos, wallabies, emus, and snow together! But you can see kangaroos, wallabies, and emus in the snow in Kentucky at the Ark Encounter’s Ararat Ridge Zoo. They really enjoy playing in it.

Staff are often asked if the animals are still visible during winter weather, and the answer is—yes! Most of our warm-weather animals can be seen inside their temperature-controlled indoor habitats. You can also meet a few of our animal ambassadors during our daily indoor animal encounters.

Some of our zoo animals, however, are designed for the cold. While they always have access to heated indoor areas, they seem to really enjoy playing in the snow! Our dedicated zoo staff are also on-site every day in all weather conditions, providing our animals with exceptional care and ensuring they stay safe and comfortable in the snow.

I encourage you to follow our Ararat Ridge Zoo Facebook page to enjoy photos and facts about the animals in our zoo.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks for praying,
Ken
