Are you looking for a way to bring the New Testament and the account of Easter to life for your family? Plan your visit to the Creation Museum on either Good Friday or Easter Saturday (March 29–30, 2024) to experience our Living History event. Included with your Creation Museum admission, this event features staff in accurately recreated costumes who give details on the historical background of Easter and Passover. It’s a great event for the whole family.

Easter Living History will help you understand the historical context of the Gospels and what life was like during Jesus’ time on earth. What a fun way to bring the Bible to life for your kids! Here’s what you can experience:

  1. An auxiliary military camp with soldiers. You’ll discover how the military garrison of Judaea functioned under the Roman governors and why extra troops were needed in Jerusalem during Passover.
  2. A money changers’ table (like the tables Jesus flipped over in the temple in Matthew 21:12–13). This display will highlight how the temple tax system and bank worked. Guests will even have the opportunity to change some of their “foreign money” for a replica half-shekel that would have been used to pay the temple tax. Also learn about typical wages and currency exchange.
  3. A baker’s shop. Passover is observed during the Feast of Unleavened Bread, so many travelers would need to buy bread. Baker’s shops got busy! See a clay oven at work and discover how family prep for the Passover meal would have looked.
  4. An optional display on Roman justice and punishment (parental discretion advised for younger children). Learn about Roman justice and methods of punishment, including flogging and crucifixion.
