The church that teaches evolution

From the Unitarian Universalist website comes an article about a church that is offering special classes to teach evolution. Of course, one shouldn’t be surprised at such a situation from this type of church. The attached photograph from the article shows the minister proudly standing behind the banner that advertises this course. The banner stating "The Church that Teaches Evolution" would be correctly translated as "The Church that Undermines the Authority of Scripture," as that is what they are really doing!

If religious conservatives can try to bring religion into the science classroom, can religious liberals bring science into the church? Absolutely, says the Rev. Thom Belote of the 255-member Shawnee Mission Unitarian Universalist Church in Overland Park, Kans. Tired of seemingly never hearing anything positive about evolution from local churches in a state wracked by evolution controversy, Belote got an idea: Why not teach a course on evolution at his church? Belote shared the idea with a member, Dale Trott, who is manager of environmental studies for a large engineering firm. Trott, who has a master’s degree in biology, ran with it.

He lined up three experts on evolution, arranged some publicity, had some street-side banners made, and on three Thursday nights in April the church opened its doors to people who wanted to learn about evolution. Attendance ranged from 65 to 80 people. The speakers included a former university biology department chair and a member of the Kansas Science Standards Writing Committee.

MARK LOOY PUBLISHED IN THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Mark Looy, CCO (Chief Communications Officer) at AiG, had an editorial published in The Columbus Dispatch (Ohio) in reponse to the recent supposed transitional form claim by evolutionists.

Here is an excerpt from Mark’s column:

Once again, The Dispatch has published a harsh anti-creationist editorial to trumpet a highly speculative report that claims a new fossil, the Tiktaalik roseae, is a proven missing link between fish and land-dwelling creatures ("Evidence mounts," April 12). The newspaper often has presented pro-evolution stories and editorials over the years, but then, later research has shown that the claims were either wrong or questionable. (Remember the now-discredited life on a Martian meteorite a few years ago?) So when evolutionists used unconfident words, such as might, perhaps, etc., about this new find, this previously burned newspaper has decided not to listen.

GIVE APES HUMAN RIGHTS?

An interesting article appeared in The Spain Herald about a political party supposedly wanting to give apes human rights. We are always suspicious of such stories until there is further documentation, so I include this article for interest, but recommend not using it until it can be verified/documented as to why this story was written. It could even be a spoof—but even if so, the fact that someone would write such an article is interesting in itself. Anyhow, here is this unverified story:

The Spanish Socialist Party will introduce a bill in the Congress of Deputies calling for "the immediate inclusion of (simians) in the category of persons, and that they be given the moral and legal protection that currently are only enjoyed by human beings." The PSOE's justification is that humans share 98.4% of our genes with chimpanzees, 97.7% with gorillas, and 96.4% with orangutans.
